Transylvania GreenTransylvania, as it's name implies, used to be covered with trees: Oak, Hornbeam, Linden and many more.Over the centuries, these forests have been cut back and diminished. Transylvania Green has begun a process to help re-afforest what used to be the Lungs of Europe. Six questions you should ask any CO2 offset company . Question1)Do your offsets result from specific projects, and what are they? Answer: Yes. Our planting areas are all specified, and will be planted with the appropriate trees for the area. You can specify which areas you want to be planted and with which species of tree. Question 2) Answer: Because of the bio-diversity of the areas chosen, some of emissions will effectively be immediately offset. In general terms, it takes between one and three years for trees to grow to become significant offsetters. Question 3) Can I follow the progress of the offsets I invest in and read reports of independent verifiers? Answer: Yes. When you buy a certain number of trees, you will be told in which areas they will be planted, and how many hectares are in the area chosen. There will be an annual report on each area provided by the Local Area Action Group, which is supervised by the EU LEADER programme. Question 4) Do your projects meet the Gold Standard? Answer: Yes. All planting is supervised by the Ministry of Romanian State Forestry. Answer: Yes. Prior to our involvement, there were no re-afforestation plans within the areas where we are working. Question 6) Can you show you are not selling offsets more than once, or that I am not subsidising others to meet legal obligations? Answer: Yes. Each area has a specific number of trees allocated to it. Within the independent annual report will be a table showing number of trees planted, estimated number remaining to fill the area, and estimated number to be planted within the following six months. The object of the exercise is re-afforestation and therefore there is no incentive to cheat. As regards cross-subsidisation, once the trees are planted, the supervision and maintenance costs are negligeable for individual offsetters, so there is no necessity to rob Peter to pay Paul. ©Transylvania Green 2007 | Link to TransylvaniaGreen.com & get a free tree | Sitemap |
